KSLTV: Utah Symphony ‘Adopts’ Cottonwood High School

MURRAY, Utah – The push for music education funding took center stage at Cottonwood High School where orchestra students had the opportunity to learn from the music director of the Utah Symphony this January.

It’s part of the orchestra’s “Adopt a School” initiative, a program designed to highlight the value and significance of classical music in the classroom.

Utah Symphony officials said schools with music programs have a 90-percent graduation rate, compared to 72-percent in schools without music education.

Officials said they hope lawmakers will keep this in mind as education and out-reach funding is debated during the current legislative session.
