Utah Symphony | Utah Opera (USUO) connects Utah communities through great live music, serving as the premier provider of the orchestral and operatic art forms in the Intermountain West. Marketing Manager
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Marketing Manager supports the Utah Symphony | Utah Opera (USUO) Marketing, Communications, and Patron Services Department by providing detail-oriented support to the Director of Marketing and supervising the Marketing Coordinator. This role assists with the development and implementation of USUO’s advertising strategies, ensuring the successful creation, tracking, and analysis of marketing assets. The Manager will also be empowered to make informed suggestions for all assets and to identify thoughtful strategies to extend the reach and impact of USUO campaigns—attracting new audiences to performances and supporting the patron journey. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are essential, as this role collaborates with internal departments, creative freelancers, and advertising partners to manage channels for a broad range of campaigns and initiatives.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Support the development and implementation of all USUO advertising strategies across varying media channels.
- Effectively work to improve communication with our audiences and ensure the proper accuracy, method, and volume of communication with patrons.
- Strategically manage the distribution of campaign deliverables (emails, flyers, etc.) to enhance the reach of our campaigns and strengthen connections with our communities.
- Manage efforts to connect with and attract emerging audiences through relationships with community partners.
- Help provide direction for graphic designers to produce advertising materials—including print, outdoor (billboards, banners, posters), direct mail (postcards, brochures, flyers), and social ads.
- Oversee visual brand, including photo selection for promotional materials, and perform light graphic design work as needed.
- Actively track, manage, and evaluate the effectiveness of eblasts, direct mail, and other assets. Share results with the team and make suggestions for adjustments as necessary.
- Develop and manage brand activations at performances and in the community.
- Supervise the Marketing Coordinator and provide support as needed.
- Attend Utah Symphony, Utah Opera, and Deer Valley® Music Festival performances in rotation with others in the department and act as an official marketing/PR representative.
- Perform other duties as assigned and required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or business; or commensurate experience of at least one to two years working in marketing and promotion.
- Concert or event promotion experience preferred.
- Ability to capture and use data to measure marketing programs and inform decision making.
- Skilled in editing marketing collateral for impact, clarity, and correct grammar.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
- An eye for design and basic graphic design skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of the creative development process and media planning.
- Proven ability to find creative ways to reach target audiences.

Payroll and Account Analyst
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Utah Symphony | Utah Opera (USUO) Payroll and Account Analyst serves an important role in ensuring our employees are compensated correctly, efficiently, and promptly while simultaneous providing a high level of service and support to our Finance Department. Under the direction of the Controller, this individual will exhibit high standards of service and professionalism through a calm and confident demeanor. This employee must have a discerning and accurate attention to detail as they handle specifics such as internal and external reconciliations and verifications of USUO general ledger codes. This individual must be adept at regularly collaborating with all members of the Finance Department and Human Resources through proactive communication. The Payroll and Account Analyst handles confidential information, including HIPPA and other personal data, and thus must be capable of promptly and properly securing records and conversations with discrete, sensitive, and efficient care.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Payroll:
- Prepare and complete all bi-weekly payroll data for USUO Orchestra, full-time and part-time staff (both non-exempt and exempt), and unionized contract workers.
- Properly process payable reimbursements, payroll deductions, and garnishments when applicable.
- Verify GL coding and approvals obtained.
- Make benefit changes/updates in accounting system.
- Prepare and file monthly union dues.
- Prepare State and Federal tax reports.
- Responsible for W-2 processing.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide high-quality internal support.
- Process, file, store, and organize relevant employee files.
Accounting Department Analysis and Support:
- Perform various journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Research, analyze, and resolve discrepancies.
- Resolve uncashed payroll check payments.
- Assist with annual audits.
- Support management through ad hoc data collecting, reporting, and analysis.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree or comparable professional experience.
- Experience in payroll processing.
- Experience in general journal entry and reconciliation.
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Strong Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, etc.).
- Knowledge of MS Great Plains Dynamics a plus.
- Ability to interact with employees to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests.
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively with the team and across functions.

DVMF Development Intern
JOB OVERVIEW:
Utah Symphony | Utah Opera’s (USUO) Development Summer intern is responsible for assisting the Development Department with its administrative, presentational, promotional, and onsite operational aspects of the Deer Valley® Music Festival (DVMF). This individual will interact with patrons, individual donors, corporate sponsors, orchestra members, and guest artists, therefore, a professional and mature demeanour is required. Individuals with an interest in Arts Management, Non-Profit Fundraising, or Event Planning are encouraged to apply.
The work schedule is flexible (allowing for days/evenings off each week) and will be negotiated before the internship begins. Internships begin June 9, 2025 and end on August 9, 2025. The internship start date could be flexible depending on the applicant. Lodging options in Salt Lake City or Park City may be available based upon need. With a minimum of 30 hours a week for 7 weeks, this internship will pay an expected minimum gross total of $2,100 (actual total will depend on total hours worked).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Assisting with the Deer Valley® Music Festival VIP program (check-in, receptions, ticket assistance).
- Weekday office work at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, UT.

DVMF Front of House Intern
JOB OVERVIEW:
Utah Symphony | Utah Opera’s (USUO) Front of House Intern is responsible for assisting the Front of House Director and coordinating a volunteer staff of over 100 volunteers per event for the Deer Valley® Music Festival (DVMF). This individual will have the opportunity to work with a world-renowned orchestra and stars from Classical, Pops, Country and Broadway music.
The work schedule is flexible and will be negotiated before the internship begins with weekends required. The internship includes primarily onsite event duties in Park City with additional office hours in Salt Lake City. Lodging options in Salt Lake City or Park City may be available based upon need. With a minimum of 30 hours a week for 7 weeks, this internship will pay an expected minimum gross total of $2,100 (actual total will depend on total hours worked).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Assist Front of House Director with organizing, scheduling and communicating with Volunteer base, Deer Valley Resort and Utah Symphony Operations and Communications teams.
- Train and Lead Volunteers at the Deer Valley Music Festival. Prepare and support volunteers in their roles.

JOB OVERVIEW:
Utah Symphony | Utah Opera’s (USUO) Artist Logistics Intern will be responsible for assisting with guest artist hospitality, artist transportation, and concert operations at the Deer Valley® Music Festival (DVMF) and other summer concert series. The individual will have the opportunity to work with a world-renowned orchestra and stars from classical, pops, country, and Broadway music. College students with an interest in Arts Management, Stage or Production Management and Orchestra Operations are encouraged to apply. This is a great opportunity to get an in-depth, behind the scenes look at what it takes to run a summer music festival with an orchestra.
The internship is slated for June 25th through August 9th and will involve evening events and include both office work and onsite event duties with a varied schedule. Lodging options in Salt Lake City or Park City may be available based upon need. With a minimum of 30 hours a week for 7 weeks, this internship will pay an expected minimum gross total of $2,100 (actual total would depend on total hours worked).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Assisting the Artist Planning Manager in aspects of artist hospitality, including transporting USUO guest artists.
- Assisting in concert operations at DVMF and other USUO summer concert series.
- Weekday office work at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, UT.
- Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night concert duties in Park City, UT (Concerts at St. Mary’s or Snow Park Lodge).
