The Utah Symphony presents Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 as part of the Deer Valley® Music Festival chamber concert series

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (July 10, 2018) – The Utah Symphony is excited to perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 conducted by Conner Gray Covington in a concert that will also feature soprano Sarah Shafer performing musical selections from Bach and Canteloube. Come experience the original masterpiece that launched the symphonic career of one of the world’s greatest composers on Wednesday July 25 at 8 PM at St. Mary’s Church.Tickets are $40 for general admission seating, and student tickets are available for $15. Conner Gray Covington is the Assistant Conductor of the Utah Symphony. His contract was recently extended through the 2019-20 season with a promotion to Associate Conductor. In 2017, he completed his tenure at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he made his Carnegie Hall debut with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Covington holds a degree in violin performance,  a Master of Music in orchestral conducting, and is a recipient of the Walter Hagen Conducting Prize.

Soprano Sarah Shafer is quickly emerging as a sought-after artist on both the operatic and concert stage. “The New York Times” praised her for her “luminous voice” and “intensely expressive interpretations.” Ms. Shafer has traveled across the country performing roles in many operas and as a concert performer. Most recently, she performed the role of Azema in the John Copley production of Semiramide at The Metropolitan Opera. Her 2018-2019 season will begin with herSan Diego Opera debut as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. Ms. Shafer holds degrees in voice and opera from the Curtis Institute of Music

Utah Symphony | Utah Opera’s 15th season of the Deer Valley® Music Festival comprises 17 performances over 6 weeks with performances in a variety of venues featuring a wide array of music styles, including bluegrass, musical theater, folk, country, and more. This performance is one of four Wednesday evening chamber concerts at St. Mary’s Church featuring principal players. The 15th anniversary of the festival will focus on celebrating the local community, donors, and supporters through a variety of pop-up ensemble performances at existing summer events and venues throughout the community.

Amos Lee will make his Deer Valley Music Festival debut on Friday, July 27 at 7:30 PM.

As part of the 15th anniversary celebrations of the Deer Valley Music Festival, a duo of Utah Symphony violinist Lynn Rosen and pianist Jed Moss will perform a free pop up concert at Susan Swartz Gallery from 5:30 PM to 6 PM on Friday, July 27 as part of the Park City Gallery Association Friday Gallery Stroll.

The Utah Symphony will present The Music of John Williams on Saturday, July 28 at 7:30 PM

On Monday, July 30 a Utah Symphony woodwind trio will perform a concert at Gallery MAR from 5:30 PM to 6 PM. Cost is $20 and includes small bites and beverages. For more information on other pop up concerts, visit
