Grammy Award-Winning Folk Rock Duo The Indigo Girls to Conclude the Deer Valley® Music Festival on August 10
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (July 25, 2019) – For the final performance of the 2019 Deer Valley® Music Festival, Grammy Award-winning musical artists the Indigo Girls will join the Utah Symphony. Deer Valley® Music Festival Principal Conductor Conner Gray Covington will conduct the concert, which will feature a wide array of musical genres such as folk, rock, pop, and classical, all favorites of the Indigo Girls. The concert will take place on Saturday, August 10 at 7:30 PM at the Deer Valley® Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Tickets to the performance with the Indigo Girls start at $40 and are on sale now.
The Indigo Girls are comprised of musical artists Amy Ray and Emily Sailers, who met in elementary school and began performing together in high school. Originating from Georgia, the duo released nine albums with a major record company from 1987-2007 before self-producing their own albums. They have been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, and in 1990 they won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Recording for their album “Indigo Girls”. The Indigo Girls recently received the 2019 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. They are back in Utah by popular demand, having performed at the Deer Valley® Music Festival with the Utah Symphony in 2013.
Conner Gray Covington is in his second season with the Utah Symphony as Associate Conductor and assumed the role of the Deer Valley® Music Festival’s Principal Conductor for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He has conducted over 80 performances across the state of Utah. Before his residency in Utah he was the Rita E. Hauser Conducting Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and has worked with the symphonies of St. Louis, Virginia, and Monterey (California) as a guest conductor. Covington has earned awards such as the Walter Hagan Conducting Prize and the Career Assistance Awards from the Solti Foundation U.S. in 2014, 2017 and 2019.
Utah Symphony | Utah Opera’s 16th season of the Deer Valley® Music Festival comprises 19 performances over seven weeks with performances in a variety of venues featuring a wide array of music styles, including musical theater, folk, classic rock, films in concert, and more. The 16th anniversary of the festival will focus on celebrating the local community, donors, and supporters through a variety of pop-up ensemble performances at existing summer events and venues throughout the community.
RELATED EVENTS
Throughout the 2019 festival, small Utah Symphony and Utah Opera ensembles will perform close to a dozen “pop up concerts” – many of them free – in collaboration with other community groups. Members of the Utah Symphony Youth Guild will perform music on stage at the Deer Valley® Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater on Wednesday, August 7 at 5:30 PM.
