SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (July 3, 2018) – Australian vocalist Rick Springfield will join the Utah Symphony under the baton of conductor Wolf Kerschek for an evening of exciting ‘80s rock, including his Grammy® Award-winning hit “Jesse’s Girl.” This performance takes place on Friday, July 20 at 7:30 PM at the Deer Valley® Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Rick Springfield is a singer, songwriter, author, actor, and guitarist rolled up into one.Mr. Springfield is most known for his Grammy® Award-winning music, acting in several TV shows and movies, and his New York Times bestseller fictional book titled “Magnificent Vibration.” Mr. Springfield has also been publicly honored for raising awareness of suicide and mental health issues, and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2014. He is an artist of exceptional talent that rock-and-roll fans won’t want to miss.
Wolf Kerschek is a conductor with experience in diverse musical cultures and societies. His work as a conductor, composer, arranger, and musician has taken him across the globe. As one of the most famous German arrangers, he has written big band and orchestral productions for many artists and symphonies. Mr. Kerschek currently serves as the Head of the Jazz Department and Professor of Jazz Composition, Ensemble Direction, and Film Scoring at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg, Germany.
Rick Springfield’s performance with the Utah Symphony on Friday, July 20 will include chart topping hits such as, “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” “An Affair of the Heart,” “I've Done Everything for You,” “Love Somebody,” “Human Touch,” and more. Utah Symphony | Utah Opera’s 15th season of the Deer Valley® Music Festival comprises 17 performances over six weeks with performances in a variety of venues. The 15th anniversary of the festival will focus on celebrating the local community, donors, and supporters through a variety of pop-up ensemble performances at existing summer events and venues throughout the community. These pop-up community performances will feature a wide array of music styles, including bluegrass, musical theater, folk, country, and more.
The Utah Symphony will present Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony on Wednesday, July 18 at 8 PM at St. Mary’s church.
The following evening, July 21, Sutton Foster will perform with the Utah Symphony at 7:30 PM at the Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater.
A Utah Symphony ensemble featuring Percussionist/Timpanist Eric Hopkins and Trumpet Gabe Slesinger will perform in a free pop-up concert at the Park Silly Sunday Market at 1:00 PM on July 22, located on Park City’s historic Main Street. Subscription, group, and VIP tickets for the Deer Valley® Music Festival are on sale now. Prices are subject to change and increase $5 on the day of the performance. Children 3 years of age and under are free in the General Admission section. No ticket is required. Programming and guest artists subject to change. Outside food and drink are permitted. We recommend arriving early to picnic on the lawn prior to the concert. Concessions, including options from the grill and beverages, are for sale at the venue. Gourmet picnic baskets may be ordered in advance through Deer Valley Resort. Gates open approximately at 5:30 PM to the public. Arrive early for best seating and parking options as the venue fills up quickly for most performances.
The venue is a ski hill with a base altitude of 6,570 feet and may be difficult for some patrons to walk up. There are a few sections with limited views due to grading. Volunteers can point out the best seating locations available. Chairs are provided in the reserved and ADA seating sections. Outside chairs can be brought in and used on the west side of the General Admission section, but must be low chairs that are no higher than 9” from the ground. A limited number of chairs are available to rent at the venue. These will sell out early for popular performances. Approximate performance time is two hours with one 20-minute intermission.
Free parking is available at the venue. Carpooling is strongly recommended to help alleviate traffic congestion. You may need to walk up to 0.5 mile from the parking lot to the venue, but you may utilize the drop off zone in front of the ticket office if you have large items like coolers. Temperatures drop significantly when the sun goes down. A blanket or jacket is highly recommended. Temperature projection: Check back on the week of the performance.
