Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder join the Utah Symphony on the Deer Valley® Music Festival Stage for an evening of Bluegrass

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (June 21, 2018) – Ricky Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder, along with conductor Jim Gray, join the Utah Symphony on stage for a Bluegrass-filled evening on July 14th at 7:30 PM at the Deer Valley® Music Festival. Ricky Skaggsis a fifteen-time Grammy Award winner and was recently announced as one of the 2018 Country Music Hall of Fame recipients. He has won numerous awards, produced 12 #1 hit singles, and owns his own record label. Many famous country music artists, including Garth Brooks, list Mr. Skaggs as one of their heroes. Country and Bluegrass music fans will be blown away by Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder’s performance on July 14th at 7:30 PM.

Jim Gray works regularly with the Nashville Symphony and is no stranger to the country music scene. Mr. Gray’s emergence into prominence has been rapid and his scope of work has covered a multitude of genres and settings, ranging from composing classical chamber music cues for international television shows to conducting orchestras alongside well-known pop/rock groups for audiences of over 16,000 members.

Utah Symphony | Utah Opera’s 15th season of the Deer Valley® Music Festival comprises 17 performances over six weeks with performances in a variety of venues. The 15th anniversary of the festival will focus on celebrating the local community, donors, and supporters through a variety of pop-up ensemble performances at existing summer events and venues throughout the community. These pop-up community performances will feature a wide array of music styles, including bluegrass, musical theater, folk, country, and more.

Children 3 years of age and under are free in the General Admission section. No ticket is required. Programming and guest artists subject to change. VENUE INFORMATION

Outside food and drink are permitted. We recommend arriving early to picnic on the lawn prior to the concert. Concessions, including options from the grill and beverages, are for sale at the venue. Gourmet picnic baskets may be ordered in advance through Deer Valley Resort. Gates open approximately at 5:30 PM to the public. Arrive early for best seating and parking options as the venue fills up quickly for most performances.

The venue is a ski hill with a base altitude of 6,570 feet and may be difficult for some patrons to walk up. There are a few sections with limited views due to grading. Volunteers can point out the best seating locations available. Chairs are provided in the reserved and ADA seating sections. Outside chairs can be brought in and used on the west side of the General Admission section, but must be low chairs that are no higher than 9” from the ground. A limited number of chairs are available to rent at the venue. These will sell out early for popular performances. Approximate performance time is two hours with one 20-minute intermission.

Free parking is available at the venue. Carpooling is strongly recommended to help alleviate traffic congestion. You may need to walk up to 0.5 mile from the parking lot to the venue, but you may utilize the drop off zone in front of the ticket office if you have large items like coolers. Temperatures drop significantly when the sun goes down. A blanket or jacket is highly recommended. Temperature projection: Check back on the week of the performance.
